Wagsworth Bay is a port town where humans and furries have lived side by side for generations and nobody has ever thought it worth remarking on. Once a year the town holds its own olympics — parkour, chess, and a team sport — and awards a gilded statue of a herring for Sportsmanship.

Nobody actually cares about the herring. They care about the car that comes with it, donated every year by the local garage, which for most competitors would genuinely change their life.

Through an administrative accident involving your best friend and a raffle box, you end up as Spirit Judge — the ceremonial role the mayor has been quietly awarding himself for two decades. Three competitors now have excellent reasons to get to know you, and all three of them want that car for someone other than themselves.
