You rent the box room from Hazel Delaney, a widow who does the books for half the high street from her kitchen table. The house runs on a notebook, a kettle and four rules, one of which concerns the bathroom door. Rent is due on Fridays. This week she has noticed that you've noticed the damp patches on her top.

Hazel decides when the rent goes down, and announces it herself, in the ledger. You decide whether to accept, and saying no is always allowed. Around her: Jo, her oldest friend, who comes by with wine and verdicts, and Dean, a courier with sharp opinions about the state of her blouse.
